Commercial Manager- Rugby

The Role

Responsible for end-to-end commercial management, including contract negotiation, risk management, claims strategy, and financial performance. Working closely with Business Managers, Project Management, and Sales teams, you will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially effectively, and with risk appropriately managed.

Responsibilities

* Support and advise on commercial strategy for major contracts, particularly Hydro and large new-build projects.

* Interpret, negotiate, and manage complex contract terms (NEC, FIDIC, and bespoke agreements).

* Negotiate terms and conditions with clients, customers, and suppliers.

* Develop and maintain agreed Terms & Conditions for major customers.

* Ensure strong commercial governance from bid through to project close-out.

* Work closely with Project Managers to ensure adherence to contractual obligations.

* Manage change control, variations, and compensation events.

* Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.

* Maintain accurate records and audit trails to support claims and dispute resolution.

* Lead the management and resolution of disputes, claims, and potential litigation, working with HQ Commercial and external legal counsel.

* Interface with HQ Commercial to align strategies and protect the business position.

* Support project teams to ensure correct insurance coverage is in place.

* Assist Business Managers with contract review processes.

* Ensure compliance with all internal policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Requirements

* Proven experience (5+ years) in a Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveying, or Legal role.

* Strong financial and commercial acumen.

* Excellent attention to detail with a proactive approach to risk management.

* Strong negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.

* Demonstrable experience working on large, complex engineering or infrastructure projects.

* Ability to guide and support multi-disciplinary delivery teams.

* Relevant HNC, degree, or equivalent qualification.

* Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance.

* Solid experience working with NEC and/or FIDIC contract frameworks.

* Full UK driving licence.
