Salter Grange is recruiting an experienced Commercial Manager on behalf of our client, a European leader in construction solutions, delivering complex engineering and construction projects for some of the world's leading corporations across Enterprise Data Centres, Advanced Technology & Life Sciences, Hyperscale Data Centres and Fire Protection.

Key Responsibilities of the Commercial Manager:

* Validate all tender and construction budgets to ensure strict compliance with agreed margins

* Advise Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Administrators on administration matters including site instructions, optimal labour allowances, accurate forecasting methods and protection of margins

* Work closely with the Procurement team to manage the procurement process from inception to completion, ensuring the tender process follows company guidelines on authority to let and sub-contractor agreements, and remains within budget

* Oversee Internal Monthly Cost Reports and Month End Reviews to ensure compliance with validated margins

* Liaise fully with the Finance Department

* Participate in, prepare and review contracts and tenders to achieve commercially advantageous outcomes and mitigate risk

* Assess and agree sub-contractor and supplier variations

* Ensure compliance with the contract programme/schedule

* Manage preparation and submission of interim payment certificate applications, and agree these with the Client's Representative

* Manage insurance needs and settlements on construction projects, including public liability, professional indemnity and contract works

* Actively manage dispute resolution and claims as they arise, in conjunction with senior commercial staff and external consultants

* Review incoming correspondence from employers, the design team and/or subcontractors to identify contractually critical items and initiate replies

* Manage project cash flow in conjunction with the Finance Department

* Ensure the project team complies with internal procedures as per the agreed authority matrix

* Set up and maintain the risk and opportunity management process for the project

* Nurture and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants

* Mentor commercial staff and management as required

* Advise senior project staff on commercial and contract issues specific to the project

* Monitor and ensure correct procedures are followed on site for any activity with commercial implications

* Ensure all contracts are administered correctly, including notices and contractual letters, to mitigate risk

Essential Criteria for the Commercial Manager role:

* Minimum 5 years' experience in a QS/Commercial Management role

* Ideally, experience in a commercial leadership role on large-scale projects or data centres

* Previous experience in construction operations

* Professional qualification in quantity surveying, or an experienced engineer with commercial responsibilities

* Good legal awareness and competence in assessing contract documents and contract requirements

* Strong communication skills at all levels, both internal and external
