Commercial Assistant / Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Location: Hatfield
Salary: £35,000 to £45,000
Type: Permanent / Full-time
An established, family-owned construction and fit-out business is looking for a Commercial Assistant / Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join its Operations team.
This is a great opportunity for someone with 1–3 years' experience who is looking to build their commercial skills through hands-on involvement in live projects.
Working closely with Project Managers, subcontractors and suppliers, the successful candidate will support the commercial delivery of projects from procurement through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting project budgets, cost plans and forecasting
* Tracking costs, identifying variances and highlighting commercial risks
* Supporting variations, valuations and final accounts
* Preparing RFQs, analysing quotations and assisting with procurement
* Supporting subcontractor and supplier negotiations
* Managing orders and subcontractor packages against programme
* Maintaining accurate commercial and financial records
* Supporting weekly and monthly cost, risk and progress reporting
* Working with Project Managers to identify commercial risks and opportunities
* Using systems such as Procore to track costs, orders and procurement
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
* 1–3 years' experience in Quantity Surveying or a similar commercial role
* Experience in construction, fit-out or a related industry
* Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
* Good attention to detail and communication skills
* The ability to manage multiple priorities across live projects
* A proactive, commercially aware approach and willingness to learn
A Quantity Surveying or related qualification would be advantageous.
