Location: Bolton
Pay: £18 – £21 per hour
Hours:
* Monday–Thursday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
* Friday: 7:30am – 1:00pm

About the Role
We’re recruiting for an experienced Sliding Head Programmer/Setter/Operator to join a precision engineering environment producing high‑quality components for a range of industries. You’ll be responsible for programming, setting, and operating sliding head CNC machines to tight tolerances, ensuring consistent quality and efficient production.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys technical machining work, problem‑solving, and taking ownership of their machine and output.
Key Responsibilities
* Program, set, and operate sliding head CNC machines (Citizen, Star, or similar)
* Create, edit, and optimise CNC programs to meet production requirements
* Carry out machine setups, changeovers, and prove‑outs
* Select and install tooling, collets, guide bushes, and fixtures
* Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain quality
* Inspect first‑off, in‑process, and final components using micrometers, verniers, gauges, and shadowgraphs
* Maintain production output in line with schedules
* Support continuous improvement to reduce scrap and improve cycle times
* Perform routine machine checks and basic preventative maintenance
* Work collaboratively with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams
What We’re Looking For
* Experience programming, setting, and operating sliding head CNC machines
* Knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, or Mitsubishi controls
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Strong understanding of precision machining and tight tolerances
* Confident using precision measuring equipment
* Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
* Reliable, safety‑conscious, and able to work independently
* CAD/CAM experience is beneficial
* Engineering apprenticeship or relevant qualification preferred
