Job Purpose

As a Clerk of Works, your main purpose will be to act on-site for the Supervision team, ensuring compliance with the contract specification and promoting best practices. You will collaborate with the Contractor, taking early corrective intervention to avoid defects, and collate records for commercial and technical purposes.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

Ensure Contractor adherence to the Contract Specification Testing & Certification requirements.
Observe and record daily ongoing works, including plant, people, gangs, and weather.
Inspect works to be covered up as part of the permanent works and collaborate with the Contractor to correct defects.
Agree on defective works with the Contractor and record them in the site quality systems.
Suggest areas for improvement to the Supervisor.
Monitor on-site health and safety aspects of the Contractor's operations and report any risks or areas for improvement.
Attend meetings as requested by the Supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum of 10 years relevant practical work experience in the Highways or Bridge sector.
Trade qualification or HNC in Civil or Building related discipline.
Familiarity with the MCHW - Specification for Highway Works and associated testing and inspection protocols.
Ability to read drawings and specifications and understand key testing points.
Driving Licence.
CSCS Card.

Ability to confidently liaise with the Contractor on testing technical matters and inspections.
Ability to work within a team and seek support when necessary.
Proactive approach to issue resolution.
Diligent and logical problem-solving skills with strong record-keeping ability.
Confidence in addressing unsafe health and safety practices or near misses with the Contractor.
Good communication skills in a collaborative team environment.
Excellent record management skills, including the use of app-based record keeping products.
Familiarity and competency in using Office software.
