Position: Civil Site Engineer - Water

Location: United Utilities Region

Salary Guide: £40,000 - £50,000 Plus Car/Allowance & Excellent Package

Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominantly in the water industry who have been awarded a programme of work to deliver non-infrastructure water and wastewater projects for United Utilities and they are recruiting for Civil Section Engineers to help deliver these projects throughout the North West.

Reporting to the Sub-Agent, you will be part of the Site Engineering team ensuring the effective planning, control and delivery of engineering activities on site. You will provide accurate setting out, technical assurance, quality control and safety leadership across construction operations, supporting the project team to achieve right-first-time delivery in line with design, programme, budget, and industry standards. The role is fundamental in ensuring works are executed safely, accurately, and efficiently, while contributing to continuous improvement and innovation.

Key responsibilities will include:

Lead the setting out and dimensional control of works, ensuring accuracy and compliance with design specifications.
Maintain and manage survey equipment including calibration and routine checks.
Maintain accurate as‑built records, surveys, and drawings.
Raise and manage Technical Queries (TQs) and Requests for Information (RFIs).
Support development of construction methodologies, temporary works requirements, and build sequences.
Develop, manage and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
Manage NCRs, corrective actions, and quality control documentation
Apply quality assurance principles to ensure the scheme is delivered as designed
Write and review RAMS / Safe Systems of Work
Issue permits to work
Input to short‑term lookahead programmes
Monitor progress against programme and report productivity
Support procurement activities through material take‑offs, scheduling, ordering, and tracking
Liaise with subcontractors, monitor performance and ensure integration with overall works
Utilise digital tools (BIM, AutoCAD, Pix4D) to support accurate control of works
Promote continuous improvement and innovation in engineering delivery

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

Experience as a Site/Project Engineer within civil engineering or major infrastructure projects
Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Strong setting out, surveying, and technical engineering skills
Demonstrable experience with QA systems, ITPs, and NCR management
Strong understanding of CDM, construction safety, and site procedures
SMSTS/IOSH qualification
CSCS card (appropriate level)
Experience managing subcontractors and supplier interfaces
Strong communication and organisational skills

Desirable:

Professional accreditation or working toward (e.g., ICE)
Knowledge of the water industry or similar regulated sectors
Experience with BIM and digital engineering tools
HNC/HND considered with relevant experience
Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) - or working towards
