Chemistry Teacher – Secondary School 

Location: Barnet, London
Salary: £40,372–£59,864 per annum – M1 to UPS3
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary
Start Date: 8 September 2026

Teach Now is recruiting an accomplished Chemistry Teacher for a successful secondary school in Barnet. The school is seeking a subject specialist capable of delivering engaging and academically rigorous Chemistry across KS3 and KS4, with opportunities to teach KS5 depending on experience.

This position offers an excellent environment for a teacher who enjoys high-quality subject teaching, practical science and helping students build the knowledge and confidence required for GCSE and A-level success.

The Opportunity

As Chemistry Teacher, you will:

Plan and teach high-quality Chemistry lessons

Deliver the science curriculum across KS3 and KS4

Teach GCSE Chemistry as part of combined and/or separate sciences

Potentially teach A-level Chemistry where appropriate

Plan safe and purposeful practical investigations

Assess pupils accurately and use assessment to address misconceptions

Provide intervention and targeted support for pupils who need additional help

Stretch high-attaining students and encourage interest in STEM pathways

Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort and academic achievement

Contribute to department planning, moderation and curriculum development

Work collaboratively with technicians and other science teachers

About You

Applicants should have:

Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent formally recognised teaching qualification

A degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline

Strong Chemistry subject knowledge

Experience teaching secondary science in a UK school

Experience delivering GCSE Chemistry

Excellent classroom and behaviour-management skills

A sound understanding of assessment and examination requirements

A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education

The right to work in the UK

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

Two satisfactory professional references

A-level teaching experience would be particularly welcome but is not essential for every applicant.
