Description:
Plenty of consultancies say they offer variety. Few London teams will put a recently qualified Chartered Building Surveyor onto dilapidations, defect investigations, rights of light and contract administration in the same quarter, with Directors only a few desks away.
The firm is a national property consultancy with a lean, well-regarded building surveying team in London. Industrial, logistics and office property make up most of the work, and a lot of it comes back from long-standing clients or through referral, so the pipeline doesn't depend on chasing new names.
The Chartered Building Surveyor Role
Work splits roughly evenly between project and professional instructions. You'll run your own jobs and support Associates and Directors on larger commissions. The brief is deliberately broad for the first few years after qualifying, so you have time to find your strengths before specialising.
You'll deal with clients directly from the start. Everyone earns fees here, so you'll be encouraged to spot follow-on work and build your own relationships. Structured technical, management and client care training runs alongside the day job.
Duties of the Chartered Building Surveyor to include:
Preparing schedules of condition, dilapidations schedules, claims and responses
Carrying out building surveys and technical due diligence on industrial and office assets
Investigating defects and writing clear, commercially focused reports
Contract administering refurbishment and fit-out projects
Preparing specifications, tender packages and planned maintenance programmes
Assisting on rights of light and neighbourly matters
Supporting project monitoring for funders and investors
Managing fee proposals and client correspondence on your own instructionsThe Person?
A technically sound, recently qualified surveyor who's comfortable dealing with clients without a senior in the room.
The Chartered Building Surveyor will ideally have:
MRICS, typically 1-3 years post-qualification
A background in commercial building surveying consultancy
Solid dilapidations and contract administration experience
Exposure to the industrial, logistics or office sectors
Confident report writing and client communicationIn Return………?
£55,000 - £67,000 basic salary
Company pension scheme
RICS membership fees paid
Flexible hybrid working, typically two days a week in the officeIf you believe you can deliver this rewarding role to a high standard, or are a Building Surveyor considering your next career move, please contact Stuart Miller at Brandon James on (phone number removed).
