Salary - £35,392 - £42,618 Gross per annum

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust provides child and adult mental health services, learning disability, wellbeing, older people's and eating disorder services across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Nearly 3,800 full and part-time practitioners care for our service users in hospitals, in the community and in their own homes, whilst an additional 1,400+ staff provide non-clinical support, including cleaning, catering, delivering supplies, ward administration, information technology, human resources and financial services.

Job overview

Rollesby Ward- the Trusts female PICU unit is looking for a Charge Nurse as we seek to support nurse led care in our Acute Services at Hellesdon Hospital.

This is a very exciting post which will allow you to use your clinical skills and leadership to help develop our nursing team to ensure we are providing excellent and compassionate care to our female service users during a time of intensive crisis.

If you feel you have the skills to help us make a difference and have the ability to offer person-centred care while building trusting relationships to increase engagement with individuals suffering from severe mental illness we would welcome your expression of interest.

The main duties are:

* Assessing patients and delivering care specific to needs

* Monitoring the effectiveness of treatment including medication and activities

* Clinical leadership for the staff within the ward environment

* Help Complex Decision making in the nursing team

* Developing junior staff

* Providing assurance of patient safety

We will provide you with regular clinical and management supervision with an emphasis on reflective practice. We hold a strong belief in team and individual development. We provide a full induction program and have extensive training and career development that can be accessed across our Trust.

Main duties of the job

Management

Responsible for the line management of identified members of the service.
Monitor the practice of junior staff and identify any learning and development needs in respect of the clinical skills base.
Maintain own and lead/supervise staff in maintaining professional, therapeutic relationship/boundaries with patients, carers and colleagues.
Provide and ensure provision of regular line management supervision and Appraisals to junior members of staff.
Complete ward rotas as required, ensuring ward is sufficiently and safely staffed at all times.

Clinical

To be accountable for own professional practice.
Support the development and implementation of recovery focused interventions to patients with mental illness.
Provide training and support to other as appropriate, including non-statutory agencies.
Demonstrate effective personal planning and organisation of personal daily work load and that of others.
Work flexibly, managing own working time effectively according to service demands.
Make clinical judgements, identifying alternative courses of action, managing and providing a high quality of care and supporting others to do the same.

* At least 2 years post basic experience, 1 year at Senior Staff Nurse.

Desirable criteria

* Management / Leadership of junior staff.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

* Understanding of issues surrounding confidentiality

Desirable criteria

* Awareness of security and its impact and willingness to expand knowledge on it

* Working knowledge / application of the Mental Health Act 1983

Other

Essential criteria

* Fitness to undergo full PMA training and perform full duties of the post
