We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, able to work independently, and confident in managing their own workload. You will be able to use sound judgement and initiative to resolve day-to-day issues and ensure our venues operate smoothly.

Caretakers play a key role in keeping our buildings safe, clean and ready for community use. The role includes general maintenance and DIY tasks, setting up and clearing down events, cleaning, stock checks, opening and securing buildings, and serving as a friendly and professional point of contact for hirers and members of the public.

Why join us?

Lewes Town Council is proud of its professional, supportive working culture and its dedication to serving the residents of Lewes, with venues that host a wide range of community events, performances and civic activities throughout the year.

You’ll benefit from:

A secure, Defined Benefit Local Government Pension Scheme

Ongoing training and development, including building competency and taking on additional responsibilities relating to health and safety

Experience working in unique Grade II listed buildings central to the cultural life of Lewes

A varied role supporting events, community groups and local residents

Stable employment within a respected local council

We’d love to hear from you if you:

Have good general maintenance and DIY skills

Are reliable, organised, self-motivated and comfortable working independently

Can lift and move equipment such as tables, chairs and staging
