CAMHS specialist Teaching Assistant

Details:
Description:

CAMHS Specialists - Primary Teaching Assistant Opportunities

is currently seeking experienced CAMHS professionals, mental health practitioners, and child support specialists to work within primary schools as Teaching Assistants, supporting children with a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs.

If you have worked in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, therapeutic settings, youth intervention, family support, or child mental health services, your experience is highly valued in schools. Many primary pupils require additional support with emotional regulation, trauma, anxiety, attachment needs, and behaviour, and schools increasingly recognise the impact skilled mental health professionals can make within education settings.

This role involves supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, or within classroom environments. You will help children build trust, manage emotions, engage positively in learning, and develop routines that support their progress both academically and socially. Your understanding of trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, safeguarding, and therapeutic communication can have a direct and lasting impact on a child's school experience.

We work with a range of mainstream primary schools, specialist provisions, nurture settings, and resource bases requiring support staff for both day-to-day supply and long-term placements. This offers flexibility for those looking for occasional work, while also providing opportunities for consistent placements where schools require ongoing support.

The ideal candidates will have:

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
CAMHS, youth work, social care, counselling, or therapeutic experience
Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protectionWhether you are looking to transition from clinical or support services into education, or seeking flexible work that uses your existing skillset, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in local schools.
