Engineering Buyer
Location: Cambridge
Salary: Up to £48,000 DOE
Coates Recruitment is working with a well-established and growing engineering manufacturer looking to recruit an Engineering Buyer to join its procurement team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Buyer with a technical or engineering background who enjoys working closely with engineering, production and supply chain teams. You’ll play a key role in sourcing engineered components, negotiating with suppliers and ensuring materials are delivered on time to support manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will join a business that designs and manufactures bespoke engineering equipment, offering a varied role with genuine responsibility, long-term career development and the opportunity to influence supplier performance and procurement strategy.
Key Responsibilities
* Source and procure engineered components, raw materials, tooling and technical services
* Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and bills of materials (BOMs)
* Negotiate pricing, lead times and supplier agreements to achieve the best commercial outcome
* Build and manage strong supplier relationships, monitoring quality, delivery and performance
* Work closely with Engineering, Production and Quality teams to ensure technical requirements are met
* Maintain accurate purchasing data, supplier information and inventory records using ERP/MRP systems
* Identify opportunities for cost reduction, supplier optimisation and continuous improvement
* Resolve supply chain issues, shortages and supplier-related queries
* Support new product introduction by sourcing components for prototype and production builds
Suitable applicants are likely to have experience with:
* Engineering or technical procurement within a manufacturing environment
* Purchasing engineered components and materials
* Reading engineering drawings and bills of materials
* Supplier negotiation and relationship management
* ERP/MRP systems and procurement software
* Strong commercial awareness and cost control
* Working collaboratively with engineering and production teams
* CIPS qualification or Engineering qualification (advantageous but not essential)
