Description:

Are you an organised, proactive and adaptable Administrator or Business Support professional looking for your next opportunity in the Hull area? Do you enjoy supporting people, keeping things organised and being the person who helps make sure everything runs smoothly?

Would you like to work for a friendly, community-focused charity that genuinely makes a difference to local communities in Hull and across the wider Yorkshire & Humber region?

If so, this Business Support Officer role could be exactly what you're looking for.

Working closely with the Chief Executive, you'll become a key source of administrative, organisational and operational support, helping to coordinate projects, prepare reports and communications and keep important activities on track.

This is a varied role with plenty to get involved in. One day you could be preparing a briefing or presentation for the Chief Executive, the next coordinating an event, producing content for the charity's newsletter or website, or helping colleagues improve an internal process.

It's a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being at the heart of a busy organisation, likes variety and wants to use their skills within a supportive charity that makes a real difference to the communities it serves.

What the Business Support Officer job involves

As the Business Support Officer, you'll provide high-quality support to the Chief Executive and across the wider organisation, including:

Providing day-to-day administrative and project support to the Chief Executive, helping to coordinate priorities and keep activities moving forward.

Carrying out research and preparing reports, presentations, briefing materials, correspondence and other documents.

Supporting projects and specific pieces of work on behalf of the Chief Executive.

Liaising with colleagues and external stakeholders and helping to coordinate internal and external communications.

Producing the charity's regular newsletter, including planning content, drafting articles and coordinating contributions.

Keeping the charity's website up to date and supporting digital communications, including social media updates and stakeholder announcements.

Helping to coordinate meetings, events, workshops and conferences, from invitations and registrations through to venues, materials and attendee communications.

Preparing agendas and meeting papers, taking minutes and helping to keep agreed actions on track.

Providing on-the-day support at events to help everything run smoothly.

Maintaining accurate records, filing systems and administrative information.

Providing reception cover when required, welcoming visitors and handling enquiries professionally.

Supporting colleagues across the organisation with general administration, cross-team projects and improvements to ways of working.

Skills and experience required

We're looking for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in being organised and has a positive, proactive approach to their work.

You don't necessarily need to have done this exact role before, but you'll ideally bring:

Previous experience within an administration, business support or similar office-based role.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage different tasks and changing priorities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with good attention to detail.

Confidence using Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.

A professional and approachable manner, with the confidence to communicate with people at different levels.

The ability to work independently, use your initiative and take ownership of your work.

A discreet and professional approach when dealing with confidential or sensitive information.

A positive, adaptable attitude and a willingness to get involved and support colleagues across the organisation.

Experience of supporting senior colleagues, coordinating meetings or events, producing newsletters or digital content, or updating websites would be useful, but don't let that put you off applying if you haven't done everything on the list.

Above all, we're looking for someone with the right attitude. Someone who is dependable, enjoys working with people, isn't afraid to muck in and takes satisfaction from making things happen behind the scenes.

You'll be joining an organisation that supports the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, as well as delivering projects that help empower local communities, so this is a great opportunity if you'd like your work to contribute to something meaningful.

You'll need a full driving licence and the willingness and ability to travel around the East Riding of Yorkshire and to other organisation sites when required. Some occasional flexibility outside normal working hours may also be needed, and the successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
