Accountability

The Business Analyst reports to the Department Manager and collaborates with Senior Management, as required.

Job Summary

Analyst (middle to top of scale): To be a subject matter expert, in one or more areas of technology, infrastructure, software or services, whilst also being a generalist across the technical function. 

An Analyst on the upper part of the scale will possess an expanded skillset and considered a senior specialist.

Analyst (bottom to middle of scale): To be a generalist across all areas of technology, infrastructure, software and services within the technical function. 

An Analyst on the lower part of the scale will possess a developing skillset and considered a generalist.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.      To be a Business Analyst, in relation to technology, infrastructure, software or services.

2.      To be a subject matter expert, in relation to a specific remit of technology, software, or services:

a.      To operationally maintain and continuously improve the functions within the business or technical domain.

                                                              i.     Dimension in line with business requirements.

                                                            ii.     Apply best practices as defined by standardization committees, industry bodies, and vendors.

                                                           iii.     Track vendors’ technology evolutions and lifecycle.

b.      To participate in the planning, development, design, engineering, architecture, integration, testing, acceptance, optimization, and implementation activities within the technical domain.

c.        To be responsible for the quality and performance within the technical domain.

d.      To coordinate and assure security aspects of all functions within the technical domain.

e.      To address customer-initiated complaints and defects within committed service levels.

f.        To contribute to project delivery within the specific domain.

g.      To be responsible for drafting, collating, and maintaining a repository of documentation related to the domain.

3.      To be a generalist across all areas of telecommunications technology, infrastructure, software, or services within the organization:

a.      To carry out functions competently and diligently as detailed in 1a-g.

b.      To contribute to the drafting, collating, and maintaining of a repository of documentation in relation to the specific technical domain.

4.      To contribute to the definition and execute multi-year roadmaps aligned with the company's technical strategy and business objectives.

5.      To develop within the specific area of telecommunications technology, infrastructure, software, or services as determined by the Company:

a.      To stay abreast of industry developments, including participating in standardization committees, vendor partnerships, and industry forums.

b.      To develop and maintain one’s knowledge and skills in respect to the technical domain.

6.      To comply with established standards, policies, and procedures.

7.      To support operational counterparts in relation to the specific technical domain.

8.      To support sales and marketing counterparts in relation to the specific technical domain:

a.      To assist with pre-sales activities, if required.

b.      To contribute to the productization of any new service linked to the technical domain.

9.      To engage with vendors in respect of the technical domain:

a.      To contribute to complex sales when procuring large contracts.

b.      To contribute to negotiations with vendors and strive to maximize value for the company.

10.      To be available to assist in any projects and/or duties that the Company may deem reasonable.

11.      To form part of the on-call roster, if operationally mandated.

Scope and Remit

The Business Analyst and related functions underpinning the Information Systems requirements of the business with focus on telecommunications. The scope of functions within remit are defined hereunder, but NOT in any way limited to:  

1.      Business Process Analysis:

a.      Analysing and optimizing business processes related to telecommunications services such as:

                                                              i.     Billing (Rate plan configurations, Discounts and promotions, Bill generation, revenue assurance, billing reports and analytics and billing system enhancements)

                                                            ii.     Charging (Online/Offline charging (Ro / Rf interfaces), CDR processing (examples include Voice, SMS, Data, Roaming with associated encoding mechanisms JSON, XML, CSV, ASN.1),

                                                           iii.     Product lifecycle management (Product introduction, Maturity, decline and end of life stages)

                                                           iv.     Provisioning (New service activation, Service upgrades/downgrades, service suspension / termination, etc.)

b.      Identifying areas for improvement and recommending solutions.

c.       Collaborating with stakeholders to define and document business requirements based on ITIL / eTOM models, encompassing concepts such as:

                                                              i.     Concept to Market (C2M)

                                                            ii.     Lead to cash (L2C)

                                                           iii.     Trouble to resolution (T2R)

2.      Technical Solutions:

a.      Evaluating telecommunications technologies and solutions in alignment with business goals.

b.      Assessing the feasibility of implementing new telecom services and systems.

c.       Collaborating with technical teams to design and integrate telecommunications solutions.

d.      Assisting in the implementation of information systems, such as:

                                                              i.     Rating, discounting, billing

                                                            ii.     Products, services

3.      Project Management:

a.      Assisting in the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects utilizing different project management methodologies as necessary examples include Agile, Scrum, Kanban and waterfall.

b.      Tracking project milestones and ensuring timely delivery.

c.       Managing project documentation and reporting
