At Aspire People we are seeking passionate and dedicated BSL Teaching Assistants to join our team on a daily and long-term supply basis. This role is perfect for individuals with a Level 1 BSL qualification or higher, who have a strong commitment to supporting students with hearing impairments or additional communication needs. As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons and providing one-on-one support to students, ensuring they have full access to the curriculum and a positive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting Students: Work closely with students who use British Sign Language, helping them access the curriculum, communicate effectively, and participate fully in classroom activities.

Classroom Assistance: Provide general classroom support to teachers, including helping with lesson preparation, delivering small group activities, and supporting individual students as required.

Communication: Use BSL to interpret and support communication between students and staff, ensuring students' needs are met effectively.

Student Welfare: Foster an inclusive environment, supporting the emotional and social development of students, encouraging independence and confidence.

Collaboration: Work as part of a team with teachers and other support staff, ensuring that the learning environment is safe, supportive, and engaging for all students.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

BSL Qualification: Minimum Level 1 BSL qualification, with a willingness to continue development if required.

Experience: Previous experience working with students with hearing impairments, additional needs, or in a similar support role is desirable but not essential.

Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, with the ability to use British Sign Language to support learning and communication.

Patience and Empathy: A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach to supporting students' individual needs.

Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff members in a fast-paced school environment.

Flexibility: Comfortable with daily and long-term supply work, adapting to new classrooms and teaching environments as needed.

Desirable Skills:

BSL Level 1 or Higher: A Level 2 BSL qualification or higher would be an advantage.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Experience: Experience working with students who have additional learning needs is highly desirable.

Positive Behaviour Support: Understanding of strategies for supporting positive behavior in the classroom.
