BIW Maintenance Engineer - £34/hr (Inside IR35) - Solihull - 6 Months (potential to extend)

Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a dynamic team within the automotive manufacturing sector. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment to support vehicle manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical and mechanical fault-finding, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Perform planned maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and robotic systems.
Conduct fault-finding and root cause analysis to implement permanent corrective actions.
Collaborate with production teams, engineers, and contractors to support continuous improvement initiatives and new equipment installations.
Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures, including lockout/tagout processes, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, fault logs, shift handovers, and asset histories using maintenance management systems such as SAP.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and increase production efficiency.Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline or completion of an engineering apprenticeship.
Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, welding systems, conveyors, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
Thorough understanding of health and safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and risk assessments.
Proficiency in using maintenance management systems such as SAP.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.Day-to-Day

Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on production equipment.
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose faults, and carry out repairs.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth shift handovers and effective communication of maintenance activities.
Participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability and production efficiency.
Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety standards.Benefits
