We have an opportunity available for a Biology Technician to join our team based in Northwich. The role is offered on a part-time, permanent basis working 30 hours per week, term time only. Flexibility around the working hours will be required to meet the needs of the department. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £23,162.00 - £23,585.00 Annually (FTE).

About the Biology Technician role:

The Biology department provides specialist A-level provision in Biology and BTEC Applied Science.  The successful candidate will work with a team of dedicated teaching professionals, alongside our Chemistry and Physics technicians.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of all practical lesson requirements including setting up, ordering materials and the safe disposal of materials. The role will also entail supporting teachers during the practical sessions and undertaking all risk and COSHH assessments.

Applicants should be educated to at least A-level standard, be proficient in IT and have an interest in science and education. The ideal candidate will also ideally have a qualification in health and safety and experience of carrying out risk assessments.

Your responsibilities as our Biology Technicianr:

Carry out the provision of the department’s practical lesson requirements

Ensure the timely preparation, setting up, cleaning and re-securing of materials & equipment for use in practical lessons

Provide technical support to teachers and students including guidance on safety or equipment

Trial practical activities and to work with teachers to decide how best to demonstrate experiments

Carry out the safe disposal of biological and chemical materials

Monitor and maintain stock control, ordering materials and equipment as required

Undertake all departmental risk and COSHH assessments, keeping updated with current Health and Safety regulations and good practice

Responsible for the prep room and storage areas and the organisation of equipment and to maintain these in maintain in secure, effective and hygienic order.

What we’re looking for in our ideal Biology Technician:

Educated to at least A level standard or equivalent in Biology

Proficient in IT

Experience of stock control and maintaining an inventory

Experience of working in a similar role within an education environment

An interest in science and education
