Bid Manager – UK Defence

Complex Engineering | Hybrid Working | Midlands | £70,000 + 10% Pension

Mercury Hampton is exclusively retained on behalf of a highly successful UK engineering manufacturer operating within the defence sector.

Our client is an established, financially strong business with decades of experience delivering highly engineered solutions into some of the world's most demanding and safety-critical environments. Continued investment, sustained growth and a healthy order book have created an opportunity for an experienced Bid Manager to join their commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity to lead complex, high-value bids while working alongside engineering, commercial and operational teams to secure strategically important UK and international defence contracts.

The Role

Reporting into the commercial leadership team, you will take ownership of the complete bid lifecycle from opportunity qualification through to contract handover.

Working closely with Business Development, Engineering, Commercial, Finance and Operations, you will ensure submissions are technically robust, commercially competitive and fully compliant with customer requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Managing the end-to-end bid process.

* Developing bid strategies and submission plans.

* Coordinating multidisciplinary teams throughout the tender process.

* Producing compelling, compliant and customer-focused proposals.

* Managing commercial approvals, pricing and contractual documentation.

* Driving continuous improvement through lessons learned and bid performance analysis.

* Supporting the implementation of bid management tools and best practice.

The Person

We are looking for an experienced Bid Manager with a proven background delivering successful bids within the UK defence sector.

You should possess:

* Previous Bid or Proposal Management experience.

* Experience managing complex engineering or manufacturing tenders.

* Knowledge of defence procurement and competitive tendering.

* Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.

* Excellent written communication and proposal development ability.

* A structured, organised approach with exceptional attention to detail.

* Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (or existing clearance) is highly desirable.
