Behaviour Mentor – SEN College – Croydon – September Start

Behaviour Mentor / SEN Teaching Assistant required for a specialist SEN College in Croydon.

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Youth Worker to join a specialist SEN college in Croydon from September on a long-term basis.

The successful candidate will support KS3, KS4 and KS5 students with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH and challenging behaviour.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people, building positive relationships and helping students overcome barriers to learning.

The Role – Behaviour Mentor

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide both pastoral and academic support, helping students to manage their behaviour, regulate their emotions and engage positively with education.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Supporting KS3, KS4 and KS5 students with SEN and additional needs

* Providing 1:1 and small-group support both inside and outside the classroom

* Supporting students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and challenging behaviour

* Helping students develop positive behaviour and improve emotional regulation

* Building strong, trusting and positive relationships with students

* Supporting students who may struggle with engagement, attendance or learning

* Providing academic, pastoral and emotional support throughout the school day

* Implementing individual behaviour, learning and support strategies

* Working closely with teachers, therapists and the wider SEN team

* Managing challenging behaviour calmly, confidently and consistently

* Encouraging students to develop independence, confidence and resilience

* Helping students overcome barriers to learning and reach their potential

The Ideal Behaviour Mentor

The school is looking for a calm, resilient and proactive individual who is confident supporting young people with additional needs and challenging behaviour.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

* At least 1 year's experience working with children or young people

* Previous experience supporting SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD or challenging behaviour

* Experience as a Behaviour Mentor, SEN TA, Teaching Assistant, LSA, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker or similar

* Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

* A patient, consistent and positive approach to supporting young people

* The ability to remain calm and confident when managing challenging situations

* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

* A genuine passion for helping young people succeed

* A flexible, proactive and can-do attitude

* Team Teach / Positive Handling training is desirable but not essential
