The Role – Behaviour Mentor – Hackney

We are looking for a confident, resilient and proactive Behaviour Mentor to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Hackney from September 2026 on a long-term basis.

The provision supports pupils who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and require additional behavioural, emotional and academic support to re-engage with learning.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students who may display challenging behaviour, struggle with emotional regulation or require additional pastoral support. You will play a key role in helping young people develop positive behaviours, build confidence and improve their engagement with education.

Your responsibilities will include:

*

Providing 1:1 mentoring and behavioural intervention for students who require additional support.

*

Supporting pupils with SEMH, ADHD, ASD and social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

*

Implementing positive behaviour management strategies to encourage engagement and improve attitudes towards learning.

*

Using effective de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations and prevent behavioural incidents.

*

Supporting students who struggle to remain in lessons or engage with classroom activities.

*

Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and acting as a consistent role model.

*

Encouraging attendance, participation and positive choices throughout the school day.

*

Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider support team to implement individual behaviour strategies.

*

Helping students develop emotional regulation, communication and conflict-resolution skills.

*

Supporting pupils to overcome barriers to education and work towards successful reintegration into mainstream settings where appropriate.

Physical Intervention/Restraint Training is highly desirable. Candidates with strong behaviour management skills and previous experience in PRUs, alternative provision, SEMH settings or similar specialist environments will be particularly suited to this role.

The successful candidate will work alongside teaching and pastoral staff to establish positive relationships, maintain clear boundaries and provide consistent support to students throughout the school day.

This opportunity would suit someone who is passionate about supporting young people facing barriers to education and understands the importance of patience, resilience and a consistent approach to behaviour management.
