About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the role

The role involves planning and delivering high-quality teaching, learning, assessments, and tutorials for a diverse group of learners. The available position is for a part-time Associate Tutor specialising in ESOL, Counselling, or Vocational subjects such as childcare, customer service, health and adult social care, or health and beauty. Responsibilities include managing individual learning programs, monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating learner progress and achievement. The candidate must adhere to high-quality standards, meeting the expectations of various stakeholders and funders, including Ofsted and other council services.

Working for Haringey

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community.  Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.

About you

Tutors applying for an ESOL position must possess a CELTA qualification as the minimum requirement, while all tutors are required to hold at least a Level 3 generic teaching qualification or obtain it within six months. Vocational and Counselling tutors must have industry experience and specialised subject knowledge. Tutors are tasked with ensuring proper planning for effective learning progression, including promptly completing their planning tasks such as Schemes of Work, Group Profiles, and lesson resources. Participation in the exam process is mandatory, with training provided if needed. Tutors are also responsible for monitoring learner progress, offering suitable information, advice, and guidance, and fostering an environment that supports the learners' health and well-being.

About the team

Haringey Learns comprises an ESOL team and a Functional Skills team, each led by a curriculum manager and supported by several senior tutors. Tutors and Senior Tutors provide guidance to associate tutors. Additionally, the organisation includes a quality manager and a Head of Service, with each area supported by the Front-Line team and individual programme administrators
