Description:

I'm currently working with a well-established and highly respected independent transport planning consultancy that is looking to appoint an Associate Transport Planner to join its growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport planning professional looking to step into a senior leadership role within a consultancy that delivers a diverse portfolio of development-led projects across the UK.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading projects, managing client relationships, mentoring staff and contributing to the continued growth and success of the business.

The Role

As an Associate Transport Planner, you'll take ownership of complex development-related transport planning projects from inception through to delivery.
Working closely with private sector clients, developers, local authorities and multidisciplinary teams, you'll provide strategic advice and deliver practical transport solutions that support planning applications and wider development objectives.
You will also contribute to business development activities, support junior and senior team members, and help shape the future direction of the consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage multiple transport planning and development projects.
Oversee the preparation and review of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and Access Appraisals.
Provide technical leadership across transport planning, traffic modelling and highway design projects.
Manage transport forecasting, accessibility assessments and junction capacity analysis.
Utilise industry-standard software including TRICS, TEMPRO, Junctions and LinSig.
Provide strategic transport advice to clients and project teams.
Act as a key client contact and develop long-term stakeholder relationships.
Liaise with local authorities, consultees and project partners throughout the planning process.
Manage project budgets, programmes and resource allocation.
Review technical outputs and ensure high quality standards are maintained.
Support business development, fee proposals and client growth opportunities.
Mentor and develop junior members of the team.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will ideally have:

Around 10 years' experience within development-focused transport planning.
Strong technical expertise in Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals and highway design.
Excellent understanding of UK transport planning policy and guidance.
Experience managing projects, budgets and client relationships.
Strong report writing and communication skills.
Experience using software such as TRICS, TEMPRO, Junctions and LinSig.
Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development.
The ability to lead teams and manage multiple project deliverables.
Professional membership with a relevant institution such as TPS, CIHT, ICE or CILT.

Desirable Experience

Chartered status (or working towards chartership).
Strategic transport modelling experience using software such as VISSIM, Paramics or SATURN.
Experience delivering major development projects.
Previous involvement in public inquiries, hearings or expert witness work.
Demonstrable business development success.
Experience mentoring and developing teams across multiple projects.
