Associate Educational Psychologist

In Surrey's Children, Families and Lifelong Learning services, we feel proud to have careers with a purpose, in many different roles, working closely with partners, that support real people and real lives.

Children's Associate Educational Psychologists in SurreyCountyCouncil are professionals who specialize in supporting the educational and psychological well-being of children and young people within educational settings. Their duties typically encompass a range of assessment, intervention, consultation, and collaboration activities aimed at promoting positive outcomes for children's learning, development, and mental health.

Overview

One of the key responsibilities of Children's Associate Educational Psychologists is to conduct comprehensive psychological assessments of children and young people to identify their strengths, challenges, and support needs. These assessments may involve evaluating cognitive abilities, learning styles, social-emotional functioning, and any barriers to learning or participation.

Based on their assessments, Associate Educational Psychologists develop and implement individualized support plans and interventions tailored to meet the specific needs of each child. These interventions may include providing counselling or therapeutic support, designing and implementing behavioural interventions, or collaborating with teachers and parents to implement accommodations or modifications to support learning and well-being.

Associate Educational Psychologists also play a crucial role in consulting with teachers, school staff, parents, and other professionals to provide guidance, advice, and training on issues related to child development, learning, behaviour management, and mental health promotion. They may participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and collaborative problem-solving processes to support the holistic needs of children and young people.

In addition to direct work with individual children and families, Children's Associate Educational Psychologists may also engage in broader systemic and strategic initiatives within educational settings, such as developing policies, programs, and interventions to promote inclusive practices, prevent educational disengagement, and address systemic barriers to learning and well-being.

Qualifications:

A degree in psychology.
Registration with HCPC as a qualified educational psychologist.
Strong assessment and analytical skills, with the ability to identify risks and develop effective intervention plans.
