Job Description:
We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Assistant SENCO to join our team on a 12-month maternity cover. In this role, you will support the SENCO in coordinating and delivering high-quality SEN provision across the school. You will work closely with students with challenging behaviours, SEND & SEMH, staff, and families to ensure that the educational and emotional needs of our students are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the SENCO in managing the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy.
Support the identification of students with SEN, SEMH & Behavioural Challenges and ensure their needs are met through effective intervention and support plans & EHC.
Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
Monitor and review student progress, ensuring appropriate adjustments to support plans.
Liaise with parents/carers to provide regular updates on student progress and support strategies.
Work with external agencies and professionals to secure additional support for students where necessary.
Assist in organizing and delivering training for staff on SEN strategies and inclusive practices.
Maintain accurate records of SEN students and ensure all documentation is up-to-date.
Support the SENCO in preparing reports for annual reviews and other statutory requirements.
Qualifications:
A qualification in education, special educational needs, or a related field.
Experience working with students with SEND, SEMH or Challenging Behaviour, ideally within an alternative provision setting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
A thorough understanding of SEN policies, procedures, and best practices.
Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting students with SEND, SEMH & Challenging Behaviours
Desirable:
SENCO qualification or working towards it.
Experience in developing and implementing IEPs.
Knowledge of local support services and external agencies.
