Assistant QS required, this is more of a Project Quantity Surveyor level role. Based in West London
The Role
This role exists to support Commercial Managers/Project Quantity Surveyors to provide commercial expertise on all commercial aspects of reinforced concrete sub-structure and superstructure projects across various sectors, including commercial, residential, nuclear, energy from waste and HS2.
Key responsibilities
Accurate measurement of quantities from drawings;
Carry out an audit of the quantities, where bills of quantities are prepared externally;
Assist in preparing a project budget to build
Preparing and issuing subcontract tender documentation including, where appropriate, preparing scopes of work;
Prepare bill of quantities/activity schedules, as required;
Analysing subcontract tenders and assisting in preparing comparison reports and recommendations for placement of orders;
Drafting subcontracts for approval;
Identifying and valuing variations;
Analyse monthly costs and provide advice and forecasts;
Assist in compiling project cashflows;
Assist the Project Surveyor to prepare and submit monthly applications for payment;
Assist the Project Surveyor with monthly cost reporting, including preparation of CVR’s and costs to complete;
Managing subcontract packages, including controlling variations, carrying out monthly valuations, issuing timely payment notices and, where directed, agreeing Final Accounts;
Assist in providing feedback to Estimators on outputs and scope gaps;
Provide support to help maintain deadlines in line with the financial reporting calendar;
Deputise for the Project Quantity Surveyor, where necessary
The ideal candidate
With at least 5 years quantity surveying experience, and having previously worked on sub and superstructure packages, specifically with concrete/RC Frame structures and basements, the ideal candidate will hold a Quantity Surveying degree and a valid CSCS card and be able to demonstrate the following skill set:
Determination to excel within the role and execute responsibilities with due care & diligence, and attention to detail;
Demonstrate a genuine interest in construction
Have good numeracy and literacy skills
Technically familiar and cost aware with an extensive knowledge of the construction process;
Ability to use a range of IT packages including Microsoft Office, notably Excel, and bespoke packages (including COINS, Conquest and Candy);
Commercially aware and ability to Identify commercial risk & opportunity;
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to liaise with colleagues at all levels;
Self-motivated and proactive
Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines
Working knowledge of JCT and NEC Forms of Contract and Subcontract
