Assistant Quantity Surveyor

£32,000 - £36,000 + benefits

Southampton

About the company:

The company that I’m recruiting for are a privately owned, leading name within the Highways, Bridges and Civil Engineering sector within England, turning over £105M. Since starting up the company in the late 60’s, they have become a very trusted partner with clients within Kent, Essex, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, East Midlands and Hampshire. The firm specialise in S278 and S38 works, as well as construction and maintenance work for all types of highway schemes, from minor roads to motorways and major route construction. They also specialise in the bridge infrastructure, utilities and rail. Their projects generally involve plenty of concrete works, deep drainage and major earthworks ranging in value from £1M - £11M.

About the opportunity:

Due to successful company expansion, my client is recruiting permanently for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to form an integral part of the current Commercial Department. Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for managing costs with the goal of making as much profit as possible for the company on the projects you’ll be working on and ensuring delivery of payment whilst developing client relationships. As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved in viewing and evaluating payments including site measurements as necessary and will undertake general surveying of projects as required including reviewing and pricing of variations and preparing valuations with Project Managers and the Commercial Manager.

About the benefits and rewards:

Work-life balance is massive within this business - despite them being a hands-on contractor they are also modernised, relaxed and truly appreciate their staff. This is all backed up with the very low staff turnover - people on average work for my client for 11 and a half years, showing people stay once they join. One of the reasons people stay with my client is because of the friendly culture - they won’t make you stay till 17.30 every night just to prove a point, there’s flexible working involved, options to work from home and here, you will be a name rather than a number.

With regards to the salary on offer, this has been left negotiable as specifics will depend on previous experience and suitability however you can expect a basic salary from £32,000 - £36,000 per annum. You will receive 26 days annual leave, which is exclusive of bank holidays, and you will be enrolled on to the company pension scheme.

About the requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, you will need to be degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar. Additionally, you must have a minimum of 2 years post graduate experience and this must have been gained whilst working for a civil engineering main contractor or specialist subcontractor in the UK. Additionally, due to project locations, you must hold a full UK driving license and live within a commutable distance from Southampton.

This client offers fantastic career progression opportunities which has been demonstrated by the fact several of their leadership team joined in junior positions and have been promoted throughout the years, at their own pace, to very senior roles within the business.

How to apply:

If interested in this position, please send a copy of your CV to me or call the main office landline on (phone number removed) to discuss the role further on a confidential basis
