My client is a well-established and well-respected local groundworks and civil engineering contractor. They provide groundworks and civil engineering services to their blue-chip main contactor clients. Operating from their offices just outside of Bristol they work predominantly within a 40–50-mile radius, with work packages up to £5m in value. Projects are generally commercial, educational, NHS, Local Authority etc. They take pride in providing a quality product to their clients and also take pride on their high level of staff retention.

They consider themselves to have the professionalism of a larger company but the flexibility of a smaller company. Taking a collaborative approach to their work has resulted in a very strong order book with a good proportion of repeat business from their clients. Due to their continued success and organic expansion, they are looking to recruit a Trainee or Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their small and friendly team. The Role

You will be mainly based on site but will spend some of your time in their offices. As Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will be assisting QS’s with general surveying duties within the company’s commercial department. Duties are not limited to, but will include dealing with sub-contractors, obtaining quotes, placing orders, processing payments, measurements and take offs, producing client valuations, producing final accounts, producing Cost vs Value reports, checking supplier invoices etc.

Projects will range in value from a few hundred thousand pounds to circa £5m. Geographically projects will generally be within 40-50 miles of Bristol. Ongoing mentoring and development training will be included as part of the role.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have already made the decision that they would like a career within construction. You will be either enrolled on a construction or quantity surveying / commercial qualification at Degree or HNC/HND level OR have recently graduated. You will be driven and Keen to learn and also have the desire to progress your career, with very real opportunities for future progression within the company.

You will be client facing so must be personable and professional in your outlook. You will be able to integrate and work as part of a team. You will be organised and able to deal with any situation as and when it arrives, along with being proactive.
