SF Recruitment are working with a brilliant manufacturing business in Leicester in their search for an Assistant Financial Controller to join their team on a full time, permanent basis. This position would suit a progressive individual who is looking to develop & grow within a business. This is a newly created position to work closely with the Financial Controller with the purpose of the role being to eventually take over the day to day running of the finance department. The position reports into a supportive Financial Controller who will provide the relevant training & career development.

As the Financial Controller you will assist in the day-to-day management of a small team, be responsible for the financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with overseeing the accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
- Assist with the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Manage and comply with UK GAAP rules, audit and government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Regular KPI reporting including revenue performance, purchasing and on all other key cost centres
- Managing the company's financial instruments and reconciling those at the end of every month
- Preparing and submitting the company's VAT returns as and when required

Requirements and skills:

- Experience of working in an SME Manufacturing environment
- Solid Management Accounting experience
- 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end / year end close process
- Excellent skills with excel
- Sage 50 competence
