We are currently recruiting for an experienced Assistant Finance Business Partner to work on a full-time contract in Birmingham.

The role is paying £21.22p per hour.

The role is set for an initial 6 month period (subject to extensions) and will be based on-site with a local police force.

As such, any successful applicant will be subject to national security checks.
Part of which requires applicants to have resided in the UK for at least the last 5 years.

Role overview:

The Assistant Finance Business Partner will provide support to the Finance Business Partner, by providing insightful financial analysis and the checking and challenging financial performance. The role holder will provide financial advice to ensure that WMP achieves value for money and maximises value from the services it delivers.

To develop strong and professional working relationships and credibility with operational heads across the West Midlands Police Force.

The Assistant Finance Business Partner will have regular interaction with operational heads, and their teams in the relevant business areas. Regular liaison with business partners across the enabling services portfolio will also be expected.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Supporting the Finance Business Partner in providing support and advice on all financial matters

2. Supporting the Finance Business Partners to ensure that financial results are clearly communicated, by providing detailed timely analysis.

3. Work in partnership with financial accountants, shared services and workforce planning to ensure that financial and workforce information is recorded and controlled in an efficient manner.

4. Completing all relevant journals and reconciliations, as well as checking and challenging submissions from the business, ensuring the production and dissemination of accurate and timely financial data.

5. Building strong relationships with the budget holders and force groups in order to influence and deliver value for WMP.

6. Support the annual budget setting process and longer-term financial planning, via the analysis of service area budget proposals, to ensure that budgets and savings plans are robust.

7. To support project business cases by providing the detailed costings as and when required.

8. To support the Finance Business Partner to track and monitor project spend to ensure that projects are delivered to time and budget.

9. Support the development of analytics that track operational demand and the investment of financial resources.

10. To oversee the completion of all statutory returns

11. To deputise for the finance business partner as and when required

12. To share knowledge and good practice across the finance business partnering team.

Knowledge/Experience:

Experience

Experience of compiling and analysing financial data, checking and challenging performance against targets and providing professional advice and guidance regarding financial matters.

Experience/knowledge in all relevant statutory, regulatory and professional accounting standards.

Must have worked for a public-sector/regulatory body previously.

Qualities and Skills

Excellent interpersonal skills – able to explain things clearly in an appropriate style and tone. Take responsibility to meet business requirements and ownership of work and maintains a strong work ethic.

Ability to challenge operationally and strategically with a professional approach.

Driven to deliver with enthusiasm – highly motivated and proactive approach to working including a strong desire to meet deadlines and deliver quality work.

Ability to work collaboratively to achieve shared goals – business focused and flexible when meeting operational needs and expectations.

Strong focus on customer relationship skills.

Qualification:

Part Qualified accountant - Undertaking a CCAB qualification (ICAEW/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA) or equivalent.

Knowledge and experience of using industry standard accounting systems, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office components, especially creating and using complex spreadsheets.
