Description:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to join a growing and established main contractor delivering a diverse range of construction, refurbishment, and fit-out projects across both public and private sectors.

Working as part of the pre-construction team, you will support the preparation of tenders, cost plans, and pricing submissions while gaining valuable exposure to all stages of the estimating process. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to build a long-term career within the construction industry and develop their commercial and technical knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation of competitive tender submissions and cost estimates.

Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and tender documentation.

Measure quantities from drawings and project information.

Obtain and analyse quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

Assist in preparing pricing schedules, cost plans, and tender reports.

Support the development of budgets and cost advice during pre-construction stages.

Maintain estimating databases, subcontractor records, and cost information.

Liaise with project managers, commercial teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain pricing and technical information.

Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings where required.

Assist in identifying project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions.

Support the handover of successful tenders to the project delivery team.

Ensure all tender submissions are completed accurately and within required deadlines.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Previous experience within a construction, estimating, quantity surveying, commercial, or administrative role.

Strong numerical and analytical skills.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.

Good organisational and time management skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines.

A proactive and positive approach to learning and development.

Desirable

Experience working within a main contracting environment.

Construction-related qualification (Degree, HNC, HND, NVQ, or equivalent).

Understanding of construction methods, procurement routes, and tendering processes.

Experience using estimating or take-off software.

Knowledge of JCT contracts and construction documentation.
