Description:

An established residential groundworks contractor is looking to appoint an Assistant Estimator to join their team in Southampton.

Working predominantly with leading residential developers and housebuilders, the business delivers groundworks and infrastructure packages across new-build housing developments throughout the South.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the earlier stages of their estimating career who is looking to develop within residential groundworks, working closely with and reporting directly to the Managing Estimator.

Assistant Estimator – The Role

You will support the Managing Estimator throughout the tendering and pre-construction process, gradually taking on greater responsibility as your experience develops.

Typical responsibilities will include:

*

Assisting with the preparation of tenders for residential groundworks packages

*

Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation

*

Undertaking quantity take-offs and assisting with measurements

*

Obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations

*

Supporting the preparation of competitive tender submissions

*

Assisting with pricing labour, plant and material requirements

*

Identifying potential risks and opportunities within tender information

*

Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and the wider commercial team

*

Maintaining accurate tender information and cost records

*

Supporting the Managing Estimator through tender reviews and submissions

Projects will predominantly involve residential groundworks and associated infrastructure, including roads and sewers, drainage, foundations, external works and associated civils packages.

Assistant Estimator – The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have some previous experience within groundworks, civil engineering or construction and be looking to develop their career within estimating.

Applications would be particularly welcomed from:

*

Assistant Estimators with residential groundworks experience

*

Junior Estimators looking for greater exposure and development

*

Candidates from a groundworks commercial background looking to specialise in estimating

*

Individuals with practical residential groundworks knowledge and a strong commercial aptitude

You should be comfortable working with drawings and figures, have good attention to detail and, most importantly, have the willingness to learn and develop under an experienced Managing Estimator.

The Opportunity

This is a genuine opportunity to develop within an established residential groundworks contractor, gaining hands-on exposure to the full estimating and tendering process.

You will work directly alongside the Managing Estimator, with the support and experience around you to develop your technical and commercial knowledge and progress within the estimating team.
