One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for an Assistant Director: Healthy Living. This is a temporary contract for 2 months with possible further extension based on budget and performance.

Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary

As a member of the council’s Corporate Management Team, contribute proactively to the collective leadership for the council, working collaboratively with Members, services across the council, partners and stakeholders, to deliver the council’s objectives and priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Be responsible for the direct line management of employees who report to the post holder, ensuring that matters relating to performance, attendance and discipline are addressed within agreed timescales and in accordance with Council Policies and Procedures.

* Lead and manage the Healthy Living Department through the provision of high level of customer service, a professional and proactive approach to the delivery of leisure, sport, health and wellbeing services.

* Provide and manage high quality facilities across the range of functions within the department.

* Focus on delivering better and continuously improving outcomes and targets for the borough and its residents through the development and delivery of strategic businesses planning, service improvement programmes and through effective business performance management.

* Lead the effective financial management of capital and revenue budgets within approved levels including ensuring services operate robust monitoring, forecasting and corrective action supported by effective use of management information and data.

* Ensure effective Financial Management, cost controls and income maximisation in an ever-changing environment, with fluctuating demands and priorities.

* Develop, nurture and maintain effective external, sub-regional, regional and professional partnerships to support improved service and programme delivery; enhance the reputation of service and the council and influence local and central government.

* Ensure the development and implementation of an innovative, evidenced based programme of continuous service improvement based upon innovation and best practice; customer experience; digital innovation; business process engineering and external quality management systems and accreditation schemes.

* Ensure that services, operations and programmes provide exemplary customer service and experience alongside clear customer service standards with an emphasis on digital services.

* Represent the council with the media, at inquiries, hearings arising from the work of the department and council with an emphasis on positive public relations.

* Oversee health, safety and welfare across the service including oversight of statutory requirements e.g., risk assessments, health and safety practices of third parties and including employee and Trade Union engagement.

* Ensure legal, regulatory and policy compliance under GDPR, Health and Safety, Procurement and robust risk management in your areas of responsibility, identifying opportunities and risks and escalating where appropriate.
