Graduate / Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Salary: Up to £40,000

Commutable from Derby, Nottingham & Leicester / Hybrid Working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate / Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join an award-winning, market-leading structural steel specialist delivering some of the UK's most prestigious and technically challenging construction projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career commercial professional looking to develop their career within a highly respected business. You'll work alongside an experienced commercial and project team, gaining hands-on experience across the full commercial lifecycle of major structural steel projects.

The Role

Working closely with experienced Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers, you will support the commercial management of projects while developing your understanding of contracts, costs, valuations and project delivery.

Key responsibilities will include:

Supporting the commercial management of structural steel projects

Assisting with quantity take-offs, material schedules and resource schedules

Supporting cost reporting, forecasting and cost value reconciliations

Assisting with the preparation and assessment of variations

Supporting contractual notices and commercial correspondence

Assisting with monthly valuations and applications for payment

Supporting WIP reporting and project cost control

Assisting with subcontractor procurement, payments and final accounts

Developing strong relationships with clients, contractors and internal project teams

Attending site and project meetings where required

Working closely with project teams to ensure projects are delivered against commercial and contractual objectives

Learning and developing your knowledge of the structural steel construction sector

About You

We're looking for someone who is ambitious, commercially minded and keen to build a long-term career in Quantity Surveying and commercial management.

You could be a recent graduate looking for your first role in the industry, or an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Trainee QS looking for the next step in your development.

Essential:

Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction or a related discipline - or currently working towards a relevant qualification

Strong numerical and analytical skills

Good communication and organisational skills

A genuine interest in developing a career within the construction industry

Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Office

A willingness to learn and develop within a specialist construction environment

Desirable:

Previous construction or commercial experience, including a placement or year in industry

Experience within a specialist subcontractor environment

An understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes

Knowledge of NEC or other standard forms of contract

Structural steel or architectural metalwork experience
