Art Teaching Assistant - Specialist SEMH School

Location: East London
Contract: Full-time
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Remedy Education is currently seeking a creative and dedicated Art Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in East London.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a genuine passion for Art and enjoys helping young people develop their confidence, creativity and engagement in learning.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them access lessons and make positive progress.

The Role

As an Art Teaching Assistant, you will provide classroom and individual support while helping create a calm, positive and engaging learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils during Art lessons, creative projects and practical activities
Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils where required
Helping pupils stay focused, engaged and emotionally regulated throughout lessons
Using positive, consistent and supportive behaviour strategies
Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
Preparing and organising Art materials, equipment and classroom resources
Supporting pupils who may display challenging or complex behaviours
Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team
Encouraging pupils to develop their creativity, confidence and independence

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH needs - essential
Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour
A genuine interest, qualification or background in Art or creative subjects
Strong communication, behaviour management and relationship-building skills
A calm, patient and resilient approach
The ability to remain professional and consistent in challenging situations
A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them succeed
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
