Job Description:

As an Area Operative, you will be integral to our team, carrying out a diverse range of street service activities. Your main goal will be to maintain impeccable standards of street cleanliness and grounds upkeep. You will operate both manually and with specialized equipment, providing a comprehensive service that includes street sweeping, litter picking, and the safe disposal of hazardous waste.

Key Responsibilities:

Street Services Execution:

* Engage in manual street sweeping and use pedestrian-controlled sweepers.

* Operate mechanical street sweepers to maintain large areas.

* Conduct thorough litter picking, leaf clearance, and the removal of weeds and detritus.

* Remove graffiti and fly-posting promptly.

* Efficiently clear fly-tipping areas and empty litter and dog waste bins.

* Handle the removal of dead animals with care.

* Undertake the safe collection and disposal of hazardous materials, such as needles.

Grounds Maintenance:

* Perform grass cutting using advanced pedestrian or ride-on mowers.

* Carry out strimming, hedge trimming, and winter maintenance pruning.

* Manage path edging and, if certified, perform weed spraying.

* Assist in arboriculture tasks as required.

Equipment and Safety Management:

* Ensure all equipment is prepared and checked before use.

* Report any equipment defects in a timely manner.

* Maintain responsibility for the security and safe operation of allocated plant or equipment.

* Use tools such as blowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, pole saws, chainsaws, mowers, rotavators, and wood chippers safely and competently.

* Adhere strictly to the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain a strong focus on safety.

Administrative Duties:

* Complete and submit work records, timesheets, driver's checks, and accident reports diligently.

Team Collaboration and Independent Work:

* Work effectively within a team to address specific projects or respond to incidents, such as road traffic accidents.

* Capable of working independently with minimal supervision to meet and exceed job responsibilities.

Candidate Requirements:

* Proven experience in street cleansing, grounds maintenance, or a similar role.

* Ability to operate various types of street service and grounds maintenance equipment.

* Certificates for specific tasks (e.g., weed spraying) are highly advantageous.

* Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of cleanliness.

* Excellent organizational and communication skills.

* A valid UK driving licence is desirable.
