This Area Manager will report to the Operations Manager and will work within Network Operations based in our Lewes Grid or Croydon office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £59,284 per annum and a bonus of 1%.

Job Purpose: The Area Manager will be responsible to the Groundworks Operations Manager for delivering excavation and reinstatement activities associated with distribution faults, small service and small works, Unmetered Connections distribution capital programme work within the UK Power Networks EPN Distribution Licence areas.

Principal Accountabilities:

Deliver works to completion to time, quality, cost and maintaining the highest levels of safety and environmental management.
Produce delivery plans and ensure provision of direct/contract resources, materials and services to ensure that project programmes are maintained.
Manage commercial arrangements with contractors to ensure that contractual arrangements are met and that cost controls are in place.
Provide monthly reports including achievement, costs and forecasts.
Liaise with important partners, internal and external, to ensure that projects are managed from inception to completion.
Ensure that all work is carried out to provide very high levels of Customer Service e.g. minimise defects, NRSWA fines and penalties.
Ensure that all workers engaged in the project are aware of all safety and environmental requirements.
Ensure quality of works meets with current procedures
To carry out risk assessments and maintain safe working practices
Ensure works are carried out to meet guaranteed service standards
Be prepared to undertake other reasonable duties following the requirements of the Company
Be an ambassador for UK Power Networks and deliver excellent customer service

Qualifications:

A Streetworks Supervisors qualification is essential.
The applicant must have experience managing operational ground works teams, associated with electrical utilities.
A safety qualification such as IOSH Managing Safely will be required as will experience working with the CDM regulations and ISO9001 quality processes.

Trench Support (deep excavation) certificate
A formal Project Management qualification
Knowledge of Microsoft Project, the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Excel, word and access) and project management techniques.

Nature and Scope:

The Groundworks Area Manager will ensure that important functions of overall project delivery are in place. These include scopes of work, procurement processes, resource planning (materials and people), transport, tools and plant, project delivery, reporting and review.
The Area Manager will report to the Operations Manager and will work within the South East Region, although there may be some requirement to work across regions to obtain best practice. The Area Manager is required to support the team requirements and may therefore have priorities reassigned by the Operations Manager.
The Area Manager's role is about achieving delivery of work in a safe, efficient and cost-effective way. You will require management of the project to ensure value for money and compliance with current legislation.
You will travel anywhere within the SPN, EPN and LPN Footprint of UK Power Networks and be willing to participate in an out of hours standby rota.
