Description:

Our client Rotherham MBC is looking for an Approved Mental Health Professional to join their MH team.

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to join a dedicated Adult Mental Health AMHP Service. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist team responsible for delivering the local authority's statutory duties under the Mental Health Act and associated Health and Social Care legislation.

The successful candidates will undertake Mental Health Act Assessments, work collaboratively with health professionals and partner agencies, and support individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. The role requires autonomous decision-making, strong legal literacy, and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for adults with complex mental health needs.

In addition to Mental Health Act work, the team supports the borough's Making Safe provision, acting as the primary point of contact for Adult Social Care enquiries outside normal working hours.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct Mental Health Act Assessments in line with statutory requirements and best practice.
Exercise professional judgement and legal decision-making under Mental Health legislation.
Work closely with psychiatrists, health colleagues, emergency services, carers, families, and other partner agencies.
Develop and implement short-term support and risk management plans where alternatives to hospital admission are being considered.
Ensure compliance with the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding legislation, and associated statutory guidance.
Manage crisis situations effectively while maintaining a person-centred and strengths-based approach.
Respond to Adult Social Care referrals through the Making Safe service during out-of-hours periods.
Maintain accurate case records and documentation in accordance with professional standards.
Contribute to the effective delivery of a high-quality 24/7 AMHP service.
Work autonomously while receiving support and supervision from the AMHP Team Manager.

Essential Requirements

Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification.
Previous experience undertaking Mental Health Act Assessments.
Significant experience working within Adult Social Care in a Local Authority setting.
Strong knowledge of:
Mental Health Act
Care Act 2014
Adult Safeguarding
Mental Capacity Act
Strengths-Based Practice
Experience working with adults experiencing complex mental health needs and crisis situations.
Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment.
Excellent risk assessment, decision-making, and crisis intervention skills.
