About the Role

Haringey Council is looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual with an active interest in Trading Standards to take up our newly created apprenticeship role. As an Apprentice you will be given the opportunity to study for a professional qualification whilst undertaking on-the-job learning in the workplace.

We are looking for an Apprentice, who would like to develop a career within Trading Standards. You will work to achieve compliance with statutory requirements through communication, persuasion, guidance, and/or enforcement of legislation.

Main duties and responsibilities will include the following:

Comply with obligations set out in the apprenticeship commitment statement.

To develop the skills, knowledge, and expertise to allow progression through a career path in Trading Standards.

Provide members of the public with advice, guidance, and information on all aspects of Trading Standards, as well as any relevant wider cross cutting council services.

Use investigative, research and evaluation skills to determine the cause and effect of any given issue in order to provide a remedy and or solution.

Undertake site visits and operations under the supervision of a senior member of staff.

Participate in publicity campaigns, customer service improvement plans and joint initiatives across Council services and with other agencies as directed.

About You

Able to use initiative and work independently

Able to demonstrate experience in administrative processes and procedures

Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, Power Point where the role requires

Possess a high standard of numeracy, literacy and grammatical accuracy

Sound organisational skills

Able to prioritise own workload effectively

Ability to work with accuracy

To communicate effectively with a range of people and organisations using verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills, in order to influence, persuade, negotiate and disseminate information.

You will be required to attend job training in Trading Standards via a combination of face to face and online workshops, one – to ones and reviews.

Qualifications / Other Requirements / How to apply

Candidates require 5 GCSEs (Score of 4/Grade C or above) or 5 GCEs (Grade C or above) including: English Language and Mathematics (or the equivalent Level 2 Key skills).

Be a resident of the London Borough of Haringey or attended a school / further education institution within Haringey.

Be aged 16 and over (applications are strongly encouraged from 18- 24-year-olds).
