The Associate Analytical Laboratory Technician will support the Analytical Services team and customers by carrying out laboratory tasks in an accurate and timely manner, following documented procedures while adhering to safe laboratory practices. The role is based in a lab environment providing a supporting role to the analysis of breath samples, hence strict adherence to working procedures and quality standards is essential. They will provide operational support to projects within Owlstone.

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

* Follow documented procedures to process breath samples safely and according to laboratory procedures.

* Prepare breath sampling kit components for clinical use.

* Operate and maintain equipment such as thermal desorbers and sorbent tube conditioners to maintain the capacity of laboratory operations. Assess daily check data to ensure equipment is fit for use.

* Carry out routine preparation of chemicals and quality control standards.

* Handling, assembly and cleaning of parts such as sorbent tubes, caps and ferrules to ensure consistent laboratory supply.

* Notify senior colleagues of non-conformances and assist with corrective and preventative action as directed

* Assist with cleaning of laboratory areas and safety cabinets to ensure a high standard of environmental and biological control

* Assist with maintenance of laboratory areas to facilitate smooth operation, for example, ensuring sufficient stock of consumables, ensuring sufficient supply of gases

* Complete records and logs of work as appropriate. Maintain accurate and up-to-date database records.

* Adhere to operating standards such as ISO9001 or GLP as required.

* Other duties as directed by the Analytical Services management.

Requirements

Person Specification

Education

* Qualified at A-level/HNC/HND level in a scientific subject

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

* Have practical experience in a laboratory environment

* General IT competency and a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Desirable

* Experience writing COSHH forms and risk assessments

* Experience of writing laboratory procedures

* Experience preparing/handling chemical or biological samples

* Experience working in an ISO 9001, 17025 and/or GxP environment

* Hands-on experience of database or data entry

Skills

* Ability to follow procedures accurately and perform repetitive tasks to a consistent standard.

* Good data entry and record keeping skills

* High attention to detail

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to work well within a team

* Flexible approach to changing priorities
