Ambulance Care Assistant - Mental Health

Since winning a new contract, EMED have a number of Ambulance Care Assistant roles in our Mental Health division based in St Albans.

We are a company providing transport to the NHS and Independent Healthcare to support in moving service users between hospitals, taking them to appointments and supporting in the community. The service users we work with have various mental health conditions and we are looking for people who can see past the illness and support with care and compassion. It can be challenging at times so it is important you come to work with a positive attitude and are resilient.

Whether you already work in healthcare as a mental health support worker or are looking for a change in career we provide you with all the training you need to excel in the role.

Your main responsibility will be working as a team transporting service users to and from healthcare facilities. The teams share driving so it is vital to hold a full UK driving licence. Full training will be provided for this rewarding role.

Main Duties:

* Working as part of a team to support the service user throughout their journey.

* Taking responsibility for ensuring the vehicle is safely and responsibly driven and kept clean and tidy.

* Assisting service users with challenging behaviour.

* Working alongside health professionals and the police to transport service users between a variety of locations including hospitals and homes to medical/care settings including A&E, outpatient appointments and hospital wards.

* Liaising with healthcare professionals and the police supporting service user to and from places of safety.

* Responsible for lifting, securing, and helping service users in and out of the ambulance.

* Handing over of service users to appropriate staff on arrival at hospitals and other medical settings.

* Transfer service users from beds to stretchers, chairs to chairs or similar both in and out of hospital and medical/commercial flights.

Successful candidates will:

* Have a Full manual UK driving licence.

* Be committed to patient care and the ability to build a rapport with patients.

* Be able to communicate well and have experience of communicating with others in what can often be emotional and difficult circumstances.

* Be a calm, considerate, careful driver, with no more than three penalty points on your license.

* Have a natural flair for team working and collaboration.

* Be physically able to be involved in patient handling, moving and occasionally, patient restraint when required.

* Problem solve and identify keys changes in patients’ behaviour whilst working demanding situations.
