Electronics Engineer (Aviation)
Rural Location: Crawley
Are you a skilled Analogue Electronics Engineer with a practical, hands-on approach to fault finding and repair? We seek someone motivated by finding solutions in seemingly impossible technical situations. If this is you, read on and apply!
Duties:
The role focuses on diagnosing complex faults at component level, carry out repairs, and developing bespoke test solutions where standard test equipment does not exist. The Electronics Engineer will act as a key technical resource.
Key Responsibilities Fault Diagnosis & Repair
· Diagnose and troubleshoot faults on analogue avionics systems and assemblies
· Carry out component level repair including:
o PCB fault finding and rework
o Wiring and connector repair
o Replacement of obsolete or degraded components
· Work on systems such as (but not limited to):
o Flight instrumentation
o Control units and panels
o Gyroscopic and navigation equipment
· Design and develop bespoke test equipment and test rigs to verify repairs
· Define test architecture, methodology, and acceptance criteria
· Build, commission, and maintain test setups using appropriate instrumentation
· Validate repaired equipment against functional and performance requirements - Circuit Analysis & Reverse Engineering
· Analyse analogue circuits to understand functionality and failure modes
· Reverse engineer circuits and assemblies where data is incomplete
· Reconstruct system behaviour to support testing and repair
Documentation & Test Plans
· Produce clear and structured:
o Strip and build reports
o Test procedures
o Fault reports
· Develop test plans where OEM documentation is missing or insufficient
· Ensure all engineering work is traceable and documented to a high standard Continuous Improvement
· Promote a clean, safe, and efficient workplace by following 5S principles.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Strong background in analogue electronics
· Proven ability in component level fault diagnosis and repair
· Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, schematics, and wiring layouts
· Experience with PCB repair, soldering, and rework
· Hands on experience using test equipment, including:
o Oscilloscopes
o Multi-meters
o Signal generators
o Spectrum analysers
· Familiarity with legacy or obsolete electronics or components
· Experience designing and building test rigs or bespoke test equipment
· Basic CAD capability (for test rig design or integration)
Additional Information
· Workshop based role with hands on involvement in repair and testing
· Work involves legacy avionics systems with varying levels of documentation
