Advanced Public Health Practitioner (Devon-wide Smokefree Policy and Strategy)

Two years fixed term with a focus on tobacco control

Full Time 37 hours per week

Salary details - Grade G £37,366 - £41,418 per annum

It’s an exciting time to be joining our Public Health team! We have recently been awarded Government funding to expand our work as part of the Smokefree Generation programme, and are therefore looking for a number of dynamic and passionate individuals for a variety of roles in our team.

The role of Advanced Public Health Practitioner (APHP) is an excellent opportunity for people aspiring to develop a career in public health. APHPs work collaboratively on specialist local public health programmes, providing support, expert advice and leadership. The roles will support the development, implementation, and delivery of public health improvement programmes to improve health and wellbeing, and reduce inequalities.

To be successful you will need to be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline and passionate about health and wellbeing improvement. You'll be keen to develop and expand your skills, curious, flexible, an excellent communicator, collaborative, adaptable and able to work both independently and in teams.

Advanced Public Health Practitioner (Devon-Wide Smokefree Policy and Strategy)
This is a new role to provide system leadership for our tobacco control work across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay; building on the successes of the Smokefree Devon Alliance. The postholder will work strategically with multi-agency partners on a variety of complex programmes of work. Amongst these will be improving the clarity of referral pathways and encouraging referral activity across the system, identifying opportunities for joint projects at a Devon-wide level and ensuring alignment with other system priorities such as the CVD prevention programme. This role will support the implementation of the NHS Treating Tobacco Dependency Programme within our local acute and mental health trusts; promoting a positive smokefree culture across organisations, supporting activity which increases adherence to smokefree policies and championing a focus on health inequalities.

About you
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual, preferably with a background in tobacco control and/or smoking cessation.

The following skills and attributes would be essential in this role:

* Partnership working, networking, relationship building skills

* Strong interpersonal, diplomacy and communication skills

* Experience of working in a complex system

* Demonstrable track record of achieving positive outcomes and being able to evaluate and measure success

* Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects

* A commitment to learning, and sharing learning and insight with others
