Location: Chelmsford, Essex, CM2 0LS
Salary: £25,000 - £33,000, DOE
Contract: Part-time, permanent

Administrative Secretary – The Role
You will provide impartial advice and effective guidance to the Board of Directors, both individually and collectively, to enable them to discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the requirements of the law, the Co-operative Corporate Governance Code and in the best interests of the Society’s members.
Key Responsibilities;
• To provide an effective and comprehensive Secretarial service to the Board and all Board subcommittees, including Audit & Risk, Remuneration, Membership, Succession Planning in addition to the Members’ Council.
• Undertake the Secretary’s duties and responsibilities as detailed in the Society’s Rules.
• To co-ordinate the Annual General Meeting and prepare the relevant literature.
• Act as Returning Officer for the Society’s elections.
• Provide interpretation and guidance for compliance to the Society’s Rules.
• To ensure the Society meets its statutory governance obligations.
• To provide guidance, development and support for the Board in fulfilling Director responsibilities and legal duties.
• To act as an Authorised Person for the funeral plan business and ensure compliance within the business to meet the requirements of being an Appointed Representative.
Administrative Secretary – Skills & Experience
Essential;
• Graduate level or equivalent.
• Knowledge and understanding of Board and secretarial processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with senior colleagues and non-executive directors.
• Understanding and empathy with Co-operative Values and Principles.
• Excellent communication skills across a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent personal organization skills.
Desirable;
• Legal qualification
• GradCG or equivalent.
• Previous Secretarial experience.
• Subcommittee experience: Audit & Risk, Remuneration, Membership, Succession Planning.
• Previous Co-operative experience.
• Sound knowledge of Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act, Society Rules and Co-operative Governance Code.
