Job description

You will be joining an Intelligence Development Team (IDT), which is part of the nationwide Law Enforcement arm of HMRC. We pursue criminals, fraudsters and smugglers who attack the UK Exchequer and build intelligence packages for criminal prosecutions. We also work with our civil colleagues to use all the tools at HMRC’s disposal to prevent and detect serious organised crime.

The purpose of the Intelligence team is to develop and enhance the intelligence picture of organised crime and serious fraud impacting HMRC, and deliver quality intelligence products to drive decision making and compliance interventions to maximise our impact.

We do this by:

Collecting, collating, and exploiting intelligence to identify the greatest threats to HMRC and drive operational decision making.

Providing information, intelligence & live operational support to HMRC teams, Law Enforcement and international partners to increase their impact and effectiveness.

Developing and delivering high impacting intervention opportunities to stop and disrupt serious non-compliance.

Collaborating with national and international partners to increase our collective impact and capability.

Person specification

Intelligence Development Teams (IDT) have specific responsibility for developing quality intelligence products and thematic pictures of criminality to address intelligence gaps. Specifically, IDTs aim to provide intelligence opportunities to support the dismantling, disruption and prosecution of Individuals / Organised Crime Groups and criminal attacks on our tax systems. The teams support HMRC and external partners regarding tackling money laundering, avoidance and serious non-compliance.

You’ll be joining our team of around 30 colleagues, and key responsibilities will include:

Support RIS Caseworker Officers and Higher Officers.

Disseminate various intelligence onto an information report/s (IR).

Maintain team databases.

Assist in dealing with written requests for HMRC information.

Work flexibly and adapt to change to meet business needs.

Apply smarter working principles in an integrated team by participating in team meetings to review performance; identify and solve problems.

Other ad hoc clerical/operational support duties.

Essential criteria

You must hold a full UK driving licence at the point of application, and be willing to drive official vehicles. You must clearly state this in your application.
