Accounts Manager – 9-Month Maternity Cover

Chelsea, London – 1 day in the office, 4 days working from home
£36,000–£40,000 per annum

Are you confident managing the day-to-day finances of a small business, from invoicing and reconciliations through to month-end?

Do you enjoy turning accurate accounts into useful reports that help a business understand how it is performing?

Would you like a varied role with a creative British interiors company, working from home four days a week?

We’re recruiting an Accounts Manager to provide maternity cover for a well-established British business in the interiors and design sector. Its small team works on distinctive decorative collections and projects for clients in the UK and overseas.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys taking ownership. You’ll keep the day-to-day accounts running smoothly, produce monthly financial information and work closely with colleagues and external accountants. You’ll have room to manage your own workload while being part of a collaborative business where people help each other when needed.

What you’ll be doing

Bookkeeping and day-to-day finance

Manage invoicing, supplier bills and payments in Xero

Reconcile bank accounts and keep financial records accurate and up to date

Oversee expenses and company cards

Monitor accounts payable and receivable, following up on outstanding balances

Use Dext to process and manage invoices and receipts

Management accounts and reporting

*

Prepare monthly journals and balance sheet reconciliations

*

Produce management accounts, including the P&L, balance sheet and cash flow

*

Support regular reporting, sales analysis and commission calculations

*

Spot trends in the figures and communicate useful insights to the team

Tax, compliance and planning

*

Prepare and submit VAT returns

*

Liaise with external accountants on returns and year-end accounts

*

Provide information for audits and help maintain accurate, compliant records

*

Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning

Because this is a small business, the role also involves occasionally helping with logistics or general administration. You’ll be comfortable seeing what needs doing and working with the team to keep things moving.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have at least three years’ experience in a similar accounts or finance role and be comfortable managing both the detail of day-to-day bookkeeping and the broader month-end picture.

You’ll need to be confident with Xero, Dext and Excel, with experience producing management accounts. An ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification would be welcome, although equivalent practical experience is equally valuable.

You’ll be organised, accurate and able to work independently. Just as importantly, you’ll communicate clearly, take responsibility for your work and enjoy being involved in the wider business.

Working arrangements

You’ll work one day a week in the Chelsea office and four days from home.

The hours are 9:00am–5:30pm Monday to Thursday and 9:00am–5:00pm Friday, including a paid one-hour lunch break each day.

This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract expected to last approximately nine months. The contract will end when the current postholder returns.

If you’re looking for a role where you can own the accounts, contribute to business decisions and work with a creative, close-knit team, we’d love to hear from you
