Role Overview

Are you a knowledgeable graduate, experienced tutor, or aspiring teacher looking to make an immediate academic impact?

We are recruiting high-calibre Academic Mentors and Intervention Tutors across English, Maths, and Science to support secondary schools across Lancashire. In this structured, pupil-facing role, you will deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group booster sessions designed to close attainment gaps, rebuild subject confidence, and prepare Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) students for exam success.

Working closely with Heads of Department, you will identify specific learning gaps, design engaging micro-lessons, and accelerate pupil progress. This position is ideal for experienced tutors seeking consistent school-based hours or ambitious graduates preparing for teacher training (PGCE / School Direct).

Core Responsibilities

Deliver planned, high-impact 1:1 and small-group interventions (groups of 2-4 students) across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Focus on core foundational skills, coursework catch-up, and specific GCSE curriculum exam techniques.

Identify individual pupil barriers to learning and adapt explanations, worksheets, and resources accordingly.

Track, record, and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to subject teachers, Heads of Department, and parents.

Build pupil rapport, boosting motivation, academic resilience, and overall engagement in the subject.

Maintain a structured, focused, and positive intervention room environment.

Candidate Profile & Experience

Academic Background: Degree (2:2 or above) in English, Mathematics, Science, or a closely related STEM / Humanities discipline; strong A-Levels/GCSEs (Grade 6/B+) in the chosen subject.

Tutoring / Mentoring Track Record: Prior experience as a private tutor, university peer mentor, cover supervisor, or academic teaching assistant.

Curriculum Familiarity: Solid understanding of the UK National Curriculum and GCSE exam specifications (AQA, Edexcel, OCR).

Communication: Exceptional verbal communication, with the ability to demystify complex subject concepts for disengaged learners.

Aspiration: A genuine enthusiasm for education, youth empowerment, or social mobility.

Statutory Safeguarding & Compliance

Full right to work in the UK.

Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the DBS Update Service (or readiness to process a new check).

Two satisfactory, verifiable professional references covering the last 2 years.

Full adherence to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) statutory requirements.

Benefits

Regular daytime, Monday-to-Friday hours with zero evening or weekend commitments.

Comprehensive onboarding, curriculum guidance, and regular check-ins with Heads of Department.

Direct classroom and curriculum experience that significantly strengthens future PGCE and teacher training applications.

All school holidays free (term-time-only structure).
