A high-achieving secondary school is seeking dedicated Academic Intervention Tutors to deliver small-group catch-up and booster sessions starting this September 2026.

Funded through Pupil Premium and targeted school attainment initiatives, this role focuses on bridging knowledge gaps and boosting confidence for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) students in core subject areas.

Position Details:

Role: Academic Intervention Tutor / GCSE Catch-Up Specialist

Subjects: English, Mathematics, or Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)

Start Date: September 2026

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (Term-time only - flexible part-time timetables also considered)

Pay Rate: £90.00 - £120.00+ per day (PAYE, based on subject expertise and experience)

Contract: Full-time or Part-time, long-term for the 2026/27 academic year

Key Responsibilities:

Targeted Small-Group Delivery: Deliver focused intervention sessions to small groups (typically 2-4 students) and 1:1 catch-up blocks.

Core Subject Focus: Reinforce foundational concepts in English, Maths, or Science, addressing specific misconceptions and learning gaps.

GCSE Exam Preparation: Coach Year 10 and Year 11 pupils on exam techniques, past paper breakdown, revision methods, and time management.

Attainment Tracking: Assess student baseline levels, track weekly progress, and collaborate with Heads of Department to refine intervention plans.

Student Motivation: Create a low-anxiety, supportive environment where reluctant or disengaged learners regain confidence.

Candidate Requirements:

Subject Strength: Degree in English, Maths, Science, or related academic discipline; or extensive previous tutoring/intervention experience.

Curriculum Knowledge: Familiarity with the UK National Curriculum and GCSE exam specifications (AQA, Edexcel, OCR).

Communication: Patient, articulate, and structured teaching style tailored to diverse learner needs.

Compliance: Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to process a check prior to start).

Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Higher Level TA (HLTA), Tutor, or aspiring PGCE/ECT candidate is highly valued.

Why Choose an Academic Intervention Role?

Pure Teaching & Mentoring: Focus entirely on targeted learning and student progress without whole-class behavioural burdens or lesson admin.

Predictable Schedule: Sociable daytime school hours with all 13 weeks of school holidays off.

Career Stepping Stone: High-value classroom experience for anyone planning to pursue teacher training or educational leadership.

Help secondary students accelerate their learning and achieve their target grades this year.
