1:1 Teaching Assistant - High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire - Complex SEN and Communication Needs
Provide consistent individual support to pupils with complex communication, cognitive, sensory and physical needs.
1:1 Teaching Assistant role in High Wycombe supporting pupils aged 7-19 within a specialist complex-needs education setting. SEN, autism, PMLD or communication experience desirable.
A specialist education provision in High Wycombe is looking for a compassionate and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide personalised support to pupils with complex cognitive, sensory and communication needs. The role would suit someone with experience in SEN education, specialist support, care or a related environment.

What You Will Do:
Your day could involve:
Providing consistent individual support within lessons and activities
Helping pupils communicate their needs and choices
Supporting personalised learning programmes
Encouraging engagement and participation
Reinforcing strategies established by teaching and specialist staff
Supporting physical development and movement-based activities
Helping pupils develop independence and practical skills
Supporting social interaction and relationship-building
Recognising individual sensory and emotional needs
Maintaining a safe and appropriately structured environmentYou will work closely with teachers and other professionals, ensuring that agreed approaches are followed consistently throughout the school day.
Ideal Experience
The strongest applicants are likely to have experience with one or more of the following:
SEN / SEND | Autism | PMLD | Complex Needs | Communication Difficulties | Sensory Needs | Physical Disabilities | Specialist Education | Care or Support Work
Previous experience using approaches such as SCERTS, Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism, Low Arousal or Rebound Therapy would be useful, although training and familiarity with specific approaches can be developed.
The setting does not use ABA. Its approach focuses on understanding and supporting individual pupils rather than attempting to make them conform to typical behavioural expectations.
