The Position - 1:1 Teaching Assistant
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth is seeking a patient, nurturing and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Reception-aged child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and additional learning needs. The successful Teaching Assistant will provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day, helping the child access the Early Years curriculum, develop communication skills and build positive relationships with adults and peers.The child can present with challenging behaviours, difficulties with transitions, sensory sensitivities and emotional regulation needs. They may become dysregulated when routines change, when struggling to communicate their needs or when faced with unfamiliar activities. The successful candidate must therefore have a good understanding of autism and be confident recognising triggers, supporting emotional regulation and implementing consistent strategies to prevent and manage challenging behaviour. Experience using PECS is highly desirable, alongside knowledge of visual timetables, now-and-next boards, sensory activities and other alternative communication methods.
